Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year, which in our opinion is the perfect time to pep up the tired feelings of a Hump Day. Here at Fitspot, we’re big on Halloween. We love how nostalgic Halloween makes us feel. It seems to bring out our inner kid. And that makes us feel a little more relaxed and carefree at work.

So here’s how we’re celebrating Halloween in the workplace. Feel free to copy our ideas and have a little fun this Halloween!

The Costumes

It was by unanimous vote that everyone wanted to dress up, so we decided to have a little fun. Each of us wrote a costume idea on a sheet of paper and we put them in a hat and then we all picked at random to determine our costume. It’s making our team get really creative as they try to find a costume. Photos to come from the day-of, but we have people dressing up as Ace Ventura, Thor, a nun, a cat, a Teletubbie and more!

We didn’t go with a theme, but if you have a large employee base, that could help with narrowing down ideas, like using “Movies” as an example. Other ideas: for a small office, have your employees vote on a specific actor as the theme and have everyone dress like one of the actor’s characters from a show or movie. Be sure with any of these ideas to state the rules around work-appropriate costumes.

The Food

Before all the sweets, we’re starting off the day with a healthy breakfast: Paleo pumpkin pancakes and green smoothies. On this fun day, offer something exciting for your employees that’s not just a bowl of candy. Other ideas you could include: orange juice, pumpkin-flavored granola to top on yogurt, or spiced pumpkin seeds.

Here are the recipes we’re whipping up:

Pumpkin Spice Paleo Pancakes from Birch Benders

Tropical Green Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup frozen mango
  • 1 cup fresh kale
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

Add all ingredients and blend until smooth.

The Pumpkins

We’re taking a lunch break to decorate pumpkins! This can go a few different ways. If you trust your employees with a knife, you can purchase a few pumpkins and have employees get in teams for a pumpkin carving contest. If budget is an issue, purchase small pumpkins and have employees decorate with paint. Encourage creativity – you can have employees paint or carve the company logo for the perfect branded marketing photo.

The Candy

Okay, so we know that candy can never really be good for you, but we all want to indulge a little. Here’s what Fitspot employees consider as this year’s best Halloween candy!

And for the day after Halloween, we may burn off the sweets with a workout!

Hillary (Marketing) – Chocolate-covered Raisins

Alexa (Marketing) – Mint Dark Chocolate Bars

Michael (Client Success)  – Zero Bars

Allison (People) – A toss-up between 100 Grand and Kit Kat bars

Scott (Sales) – Black Forest Gummy Bears

Eric (sales) – Reeses

Caitlin (Sales) – York Peppermint Patties

Be mindful.

We’re putting this disclaimer in there. Not everyone likes to dress up. Or maybe Halloween happens to fall on an important deadline. Be mindful of employees that are working and allow them to keep to themselves.
